Hoping in... Hope?
Hope is a strange concept. The Bible tells us that God is the source
of our Hope and that the Bible is worth putting our Hope in.
But honestly, what IS Hope? In history, and even today, physicians believed that while there is life, there is hope. Life itself is Hope.
My younger sister's name is Hope. Sometimes the word becomes diluted and now has other meanings attached. My dad always says to my sister, "Hope, my only Hope!"
What is my only Hope? Am I over thinking things by being hung up on one word and its meaning? Possibly.
The dictionary defines Hope as a "feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best: to give up hope", "a particular instance of this feeling: the hope of winning", "grounds for this feeling in a particular instance: There is little or no hope of his recovery", " a person or thing in which expectations are centered", " something that is hoped for: Her forgiveness is my constant hope". Either to look forward to with desire and reasonable confidence or to believe, desire, or trust.
Urban Dictionary defines it as "Mankind’s greatest weakness and greatest strength", "A wish or desire accompanied by confident expectation of its fulfillment," "The delusion that your situation is not as objectively bad as it is".
So as best as I can figure... Hope is a dream and a goal, but yet only a feeling and nothing concrete. Hope is something our minds and souls seek. Our inner selves need that search for something greater and high. The longing to be, "farther up, and further in!" Hope pulls us along.
If you have ever been in a place without Hope, a place called Despair, you know why Hope is needed to live. If you have not been there, do not desire it. It is desolate, discouraging and heartbreaking. Imagine a dark room with no doors, windows, or lights and the insane need to GET OUT.
Hope is there to spur us on in our pursuits. Hope is there so we will aim high. Hope is light, bravery and a chance when all else is uncertain. Sometimes Hope is misguided. Never bet on a Hope for the soul will long for things it will never get nor should have. But hold on to Hope. Because Hope is what gets us out of bed everyday. Hope is what makes each day new and clean. Hope is what gives us strength.
Sometimes Hope is the most obnoxious factor of our day. Sometimes we could scream for the unquestionable and unfatigued poke of Hope. Does Hope always come through? Does Hope always pan out in the manner we expect? Does Hope mean happy endings? Does Hope mean we understand it?
No. We just have this Hope. Sometimes we don't even know what exactly we're hoping for, we just Hope.
Hopelessness is defeat. Hopelessness is loneliness and tears. Hopelessness is cold coffee on a rainy morning. Hope is a secret glee. Hope is a fallen star in your pocket. Hope is a nagging joy. Hold on to Hope. Even when there is nothing else. Hope WILL see you through. Hope in tomorrow, in sunshine. Hope in a future, in something behind the next door. Even when you don't know why, find Hope. It will see you though.
